ADC Explains Why Atiku Missed G-100 Opposition Summit
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has explained why its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was absent from the G-100 opposition summit held in Abuja.
ADC spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the meeting was primarily focused on discussions among political parties rather than individual presidential candidates.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Day Break, Abdullahi maintained that Atiku’s absence did not affect the party’s participation, as the ADC was well represented by senior officials at the gathering.
According to him, he attended the summit alongside about four vice chairmen of the party, making it unnecessary for the former vice president to be physically present.
“The summit is more about conversation between political parties rather than conversation among candidates. It is more about exploring cooperation opportunities among political parties,” Abdullahi said.
He added that the ADC was fully involved in the discussions and that Atiku’s absence should not be interpreted as a lack of commitment to the opposition collaboration.
The G-100 summit, held on Monday at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, brought together representatives of six major opposition parties to explore possible areas of cooperation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The gathering formed part of ongoing efforts by opposition parties to develop a common strategy for challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next presidential election.
However, several prominent opposition figures were absent from the meeting, including Atiku, Peter Obi, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The ADC, meanwhile, has continued to participate in discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
