United States President Donald Trump has appointed Washington-based lobbyist Dr Karl Von Batten as a commissioner on a presidential commission at the White House.

According to reports, the appointment was announced on Thursday by Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., the lobbying and public affairs firm where Von Batten serves as managing partner.

The firm disclosed the development in a post on its account, describing the appointment as a major honour for its managing partner.

The statement said Von Batten was grateful to President Trump for the confidence placed in him and expressed his readiness to serve the United States through the presidential commission.

The appointment comes months after Von Batten-Montague-York was engaged by former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar for lobbying services in Washington.

Atiku’s campaign entered into the agreement with the US-based firm in March 2026.

The 12-month lobbying contract was reportedly valued at $1.2 million and was aimed at providing Washington-based lobbying and public affairs services.

Von Batten’s new role at the White House has consequently drawn attention because of his previous professional relationship with Atiku.
