Sultan Of Sokoto Reacts As Sani Emerges New Emir Of Gumel

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has congratulated Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani on his emergence as the new Emir of Gumel.

According to Ireporter Online, the Sultan described the peaceful and orderly selection of the new Sarkin Gumel as a commendable development and a reflection of the enduring relevance of the traditional institution.

The Sultan congratulated Lawan Sani following his appointment as successor to the late Emir of Gumel, Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, who died in Cairo, Egypt, on September 3, 2026, after a 46-year reign.

In his message, the Sultan prayed that Almighty Allah would grant the new Emir the wisdom, strength and guidance required to discharge the responsibilities of his office and serve the people of Gumel Emirate effectively.

He urged the new traditional ruler to preserve the dignity, customs and values of the historic Gumel Emirate while building on the legacy of his predecessor.

The Sultan, who also serves as President of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council, encouraged the Emir to promote peace, unity, justice and development among his subjects and maintain cordial relationships with neighbouring emirates, government authorities and communities within and outside the emirate.

He described the traditional institution as an important pillar of peace, stability and social cohesion, particularly at a time when communities need responsible and purposeful leadership.

The Sultan also appealed to residents of Gumel Emirate to give the new Emir their full support and cooperation, noting that the effectiveness of traditional institutions depends significantly on the unity and loyalty of their subjects.

He prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Emir, asking Allah to reward him for his decades of service to his people and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.

The Sultan further prayed for a long, peaceful and successful reign for the new Sarkin Gumel and asked Allah to guide him in his service to the emirate, the traditional institution and humanity.
