First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Receives Prestigious Chieftaincy Title In Imo

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been conferred with the traditional title of ‘Oso Di Eme I’ of Imo State.

According to Ireporter Online, the Senior Special Adviser to the First Lady on Media, Busola Kukoyi, announced the development in a statement shared on X on Wednesday.

Kukoyi accompanied the announcement with photographs from the ceremony, showing the First Lady dressed in colourful traditional attire featuring symbols associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Nigerian flag.

The First Lady was also seen wearing a red headwrap and coral beads while holding a ceremonial fan bearing the inscription “OSO DI EME” and a white horsetail flywhisk.

Explaining the significance of the title, Kukoyi said ‘Oso Di Eme I’ translates to “She who supports her husband.”

She praised the First Lady as a committed partner to President Bola Tinubu, highlighting her contributions alongside the activities of the administration.

“Oso Di Eme I of Imo State, meaning ‘She who supports her husband,’” Kukoyi wrote.

“A worthy partner of her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. As he’s working, she is working. Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, President and Convener of the Transparency and Accountability Group, Comrade Ayo Ologun, has called for an investigation into the use of public funds for foreign trips involving the First Lady.

Ologun raised concerns over records indicating that $553,884 was released as foreign exchange for overseas trips involving Oluremi Tinubu between 2023 and 2024.

He questioned the legal basis for funding the trips, arguing that the Office of the First Lady is not recognised as a separate government office under the law or provided for as an independent office in the national budget.

According to him, the matter should not only be examined from the perspective of possible violations of financial regulations but also in relation to concerns about the use and management of public resources.
