A minor fire broke out at the Idu train station in Abuja on Wednesday evening, causing damage to some electrical cables but leaving the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service unaffected.

According to Ireporter Online, the incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. in the low-voltage electrical room at the station and was quickly brought under control by maintenance personnel.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, disclosed the development in a statement.

Unyimadu said an initial assessment showed that some electrical supply cables connected to control panels were damaged during the incident.

He, however, noted that the station’s alternative solar power system was not affected by the fire.

According to the NRC spokesman, power was temporarily restored to the station’s lifts and escalators, with five of the six facilities operational as of Thursday.

He assured passengers that the Abuja-Kaduna train service would continue to operate according to its normal schedule despite the incident.

Unyimadu said technical personnel were conducting further assessments to determine the exact cause of the electrical fault and ensure that all affected installations were fully restored.

He added that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) had been notified and was expected to provide the necessary technical assistance.

The NRC spokesman reiterated that the incident did not disrupt train operations, while efforts continued to restore the affected electrical installations and prevent further faults.
