Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has urged his political associates and former officials who served under his administration in Zamfara State to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to tackle banditry and other forms of insecurity across the country.

Matawalle made the call in Kaduna at the weekend during an interactive meeting with former members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, former commissioners, special advisers and other political associates who served in his administration between 2019 and 2023.

According to reports, the meeting focused on security, political developments and the progress of Zamfara State, while also providing an opportunity for the former governor to rally his political structure behind the Tinubu administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Matawalle said the protection of lives and property remained a fundamental responsibility of any responsible government, stressing that the Federal Government was committed to defeating banditry and restoring peace to communities affected by insecurity.

He said, “Security of lives and property is the major concern of every serious government in any country. That is why the APC-led administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has focused strongly on securing the nation.”

The minister further said Tinubu’s commitment to addressing insecurity was evident in the President’s frequent engagements and consultations on security matters both within Nigeria and internationally.

Matawalle maintained that despite the political activities and challenges facing the country, the Tinubu administration would continue to prioritise security, economic development, peace and national unity.

He therefore urged the former political office holders and other associates present at the meeting to take the message of the administration to the grassroots, particularly communities across Zamfara State.

Matawalle also tasked them with mobilising support for the Tinubu Again Movement and galvanising residents of the state behind the President’s bid for another term in office in 2027.

Earlier, leaders of the various groups represented at the meeting commended Matawalle for maintaining what they described as a strong political structure in Zamfara since his tenure as governor between 2019 and 2023.

The leaders said Matawalle had continued to enjoy significant loyalty and support across the state despite his current responsibilities as a member of the Federal Executive Council.

They subsequently pledged their support for Tinubu’s political efforts, expressing the view that the success of the President would also benefit them and their respective political constituencies.
