State’s Chief Judge Releases 14 Prison Inmates (See Why)

Fourteen inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Afara, Umuahia, have regained their freedom during a jail delivery conducted by the Abia State Chief Judge, Justice Onuoha Ogwe, on Friday. Speaking while conducting the jail delivery, the State Chief Judge said the exercise was pursuant to his schedule of duties bestowed on his office.

Justice Ogwe noted that most of those released have nothing to show for their continued stay at the prison yard and advised them to turn a new leaf and contribute positively to the society instead of constituting nuisance.

Speaking to newsmen after their release, some of the inmates including Anyanwu Daniel and Ifeanyi Ukpo identified impatience, hot temper and exuberance as major contributory factors to youth crimes and advised Nigerian youths to distance themselves from acts capable of implicating them.

It was gathered that most of those released have their case files burnt at the State CID fire incident, as 26 were inmates were enlisted for the exercise while the jail delivery continues on the 18th of February, 2022.
