With this statement, Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who is regarded as an independent and no-nonsense politician, has given the opposition considerable headaches. Nigerians around the country are reacting to the statement in various ways; while it has provided hope for Jagaban’s supporters, the majority of opposition party members do not think the statement is amusing.

In the 2019 presidential elections, incumbent President Buhari defeated the PDP contender, Atiku Abubakar. The vast majority of Buhari’s votes came from the North, where he has a cult following.

Herein lies the discomfort in the Kaduna State Governors statement, “Aside President Buhari, Tinubu Is One Politician That Is Genuinely Loved In The North”, judging from the last APC presidential primaries it was clear that the Northern Governors played a pivotal role in Tinubu’s success.

The Northern Governors did an outstanding job, from their insistence that the South hold the presidency through their ambush of those stakeholders who wanted to keep power in the North. El-Rufai’s statement did definitely cause some jitters, notably among the opposition.

Dismissing the governor of Kaduna State’s statement would only be at one’s peril given that the APC boasts of having 14 governors from the North.
