Few Days To Christmas, Gunmen Kidnap Catholic Priest

Reverend Father Mark Ojotu, Chaplain of St Mary’s Hospital, Okpoga, in the Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, just four days before Christmas, has caused residents in the community to panic.

According to a statement issued by the Diocesan Chancellor, Rev Fr Joseph Aboyi Itodo, the Bishop of Otukpo Catholic Diocese, His Excellency, Most Rev Fr Michael Apochi, has asked Christian faithful across the country to pray for the priest’s quick and safe release.

Since the beginning of the year, there have been a number of kidnappings in the Benue South Senatorial District.

It can be recalled that the late Rev Fr John Adeyi, the late Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo, was kidnapped from the same parish in Okpoga in 2016 by assailants who later killed him.

In June 2016, security personnel combing the area discovered Fr Adeyi’s decomposing body behind the office complex of Ogbadibo Local Government Education Authority in Otukpa, his home town.
