💥 Edo 2024: Whom The Cap Fits?: A CALL For ANAMERO DEKERI’S CANDIDACY (1)

As politicians begin testing the murky waters of politics to succeed Governor Godwin OBASEKI, those nursing Governorship aspirations may have begun the race in earnest. The political atmosphere is once again tensed, supporters of the various winners during February 25th polls have realigned, pledging loyalty to their new found paymasters in apparent chase to make the proverbial “first eleven team” amongst the emerging aspirants that would form the next formidable organ of statecraft in Edo state.
Ironically, many failed to realize God alone gives power and not everyone whose name surfaced in the social media is genuinely in the race as numerous jokers abounds simply gasping for relevancy.
Relevancy is key in politics and this is just another step for bargaining strategies for negotiating for the big fish which is the ultimate desire. But for others, the desire and the lust to create an enduring legacy, build our roads, secure our state, manage institutions, improve infrastructure, build industries, employ the masses, empower the youths, to mention just few are the driving force to lead our dear state.
Agreed that the idea of seeking to be number one citizen of Edo state is a right every Edo indigenes possessed which no one can be deprived of, it’s equally the business of the same Edo people to decide who governs them come 2024 not only with regards to choice of party but a candidate with proven track records, experience, capacity to deliver on campaign promises, acceptability, bargaining power, political strength and outreach, individual performance at the just concluded February and March Elections 2023.
Aside Edo gubernatorial election billed for mid next year, Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa states holds later this year 2023. Today, attention now shifts from the once famous Obidients, Atikukated and Tinubu’s Emilokàn fans to Edo 2024. One reason is responsible for this- the quest to reclaim the once held dominion of the APC and the first ACN/APC State in the south south geopolitical zone under Comrade Adams Oshiomhole which’s currently held by the PDP’s czar- Godwin OBASEKI.
As stateman in his own right, a father figure, an enigma, the builder of modern Edo, the trailblazer who led multifaceted developments across Edo (2008-2016), two times governor of Edo state, former APC national chairman and the Osho-wonder of the universe, Comrade Senator Adams Oshiomhole is loved by Edo people across party lines whether KWAKWAsiya, ATIKUlated, OBIdients or BATist fans. For me, APC winning the next Edo Governorship election is one of the many models for a renewed hope towards enthronement of visionary, purposeful and developmentally driven governance under APC beginning from November, 2024 (God’s willing) against Obaseki’s failed Edo.
Indeed, it is often said that while statesmen think of nation building for next generation, politicians think of the next election. After serving eight years as governor, his legacies still remained his signature. The first major litmus test of his popularity and acceptability almost 8 years after leaving office as governor was his recent senatorial victory into the red chamber of the National Assembly.
That was historic but not surprising. Oshiomhole’s desire was to contest for president but he listened to wise counsel, jettisoned presidential ambition and supported Asiwaju Jagaban to succeed.
It is noteworthy that Oshiomhole bowed to pressure to contest Senate in sacrifice of his presidential ambition on the alter of loyalty to his long time friend, Asiwaju Tinubu. His name on the ballot propelled the fortunes raked by the APC in Edo state during the February 25th polls.
REP ANAMERO DEKERI
Another statesman who is also worthy of mention and who didn’t show any interest at first instance to contest for House of Representatives is an iconic Okpella born business mogul, philanthropist, and politician, Rep. Anamero Dekeri DANCO. His performance was exceptional. His campaign strategies were unique. His electoral results was excellent having polled a total of #58,392 votes against a distant #25,152 votes* polled by his PDP rival. Such votes was historic never polled by any candidate of any party since the return to democracy in 1999.
President Tinubu, Adams Oshiomhole and the leadership of APC need to shop for a man with such a landmark capacity.
