2027: APC Blasts Kwankwaso Over Promise To ‘Take Care Of’ Atiku
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over his reported appeal to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race.
According to Ireporter Online, Kwankwaso had urged Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to abandon his ambition and support the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.
The former Kano State governor reportedly cited Atiku’s age and health while suggesting that the former vice-president would be adequately taken care of if the opposition ticket emerged victorious.
Reacting to the development, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka questioned what he described as attempts by members of the opposition to negotiate over the presidency before Nigerians decide who will occupy the office in 2027.
In a post on X, Morka accused the opposition camp of hypocrisy and described the political manoeuvring as an attempt at “horse trading” over the presidency.
He argued that Kwankwaso’s remarks had exposed what he considered contradictions within the opposition, accusing its members of presenting themselves differently in public while pursuing political interests behind the scenes.
Morka wrote, “Kwankwaso to Atiku: Step down for us … we will take care of you if we win presidency.”
He further alleged that the development had exposed what he described as hypocrisy within the opposition, insisting that the presidency ultimately belongs to whoever secures the mandate of Nigerian voters.
The APC spokesman maintained that the outcome of the 2027 presidential election would be determined by the electorate, dismissing what he described as premature political negotiations over an office yet to be decided by Nigerians.
