2027 Revolution: Labour Party Vows Unprecedented Power Shift to Women!

The factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to increasing women’s participation in the 2027 general elections.
According to reports, Abure emphasized that the LP has consistently created avenues for women not only to engage in party affairs but also to contest for elective positions—an approach the party intends to sustain in the upcoming elections.
This assurance was contained in a statement issued by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiorah Ifoh.
Speaking in Abuja on Thursday at an event organized by the Aju Morgan Elumelu Foundation (AMEF), Abure said,
“I want to assure you that by 2027, God keeping us alive, under our leadership, we will provide even more opportunities for women. We recognize the cultural, financial, and economic barriers limiting women’s political participation. The Labour Party is ready and committed to dismantling those obstacles.”
Echoing similar sentiments, the faction’s National Women Leader, Dudu Manuga, highlighted the steady decline in women’s representation in politics and governance. She stressed the importance of passing proposed legislation that seeks to reserve special seats for women in the legislature.
“I’ve never seen such a united effort aimed at ensuring greater female presence in the legislative arm. With persistent advocacy and mobilization, I believe we can achieve success if the bill is passed,” Manuga noted.
She also called for stronger collaboration among women at all tiers of government to push for the bill’s passage.
“Women across all states must engage their lawmakers and push for the adoption of this bill. It’s time for collective lobbying. But in the meantime, political parties must also step up,” she added.
