4th Mainland Bridge Will Affect 800 Buildings (DETAILS)

The Lagos State Government has announced that the proposed 4th Mainland Bridge will have an impact on 800 buildings.

Engr. Aramide Adeyoye, Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, stated at a joint news conference on Friday that the proposed Fourth Mainland Bridge is expected to be completed in 54 months and that 16 alignments are being considered.

She revealed that the number of structures to be affected and demolished to make way for the project had been reduced from 2,000 to 800, with adequate compensation provided.

Adeyoye also revealed that the project, which is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), would see the consortium toll the bridge for 40 years before handing it over to the government.

The special adviser went on to say that construction on the bridge would begin in the first quarter of 2023.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, stated that those whose structures would be demolished would be adequately compensated, and that affected property owners should have no fear.

Ope George, Special Adviser to the Governor on PPPs, stated that the CCECC-CRCCIG Consortium was the preferred bidder and would build the Fourth Mainland Bridge.

The Fourth Mainland Bridge Project, a proposed PPP transport infrastructure development, would include the construction and operation of a greenfield tolled road and bridge with a design speed of 120km/h, as well as the development of adjacent real estate, according to George.

When completed, the bridge will be the second longest in Africa, with three toll plazas, nine interchanges, a 4.5km Lagoon Bridge, and an environmentally friendly environment.

He also stated that the bridge would span 37 kilometers, beginning at Abraham Adesanya in Ajah on the Eti-Osa-Lekki-Epe corridor and continuing north west to the Lagoon shoreline of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway via Owutu/Isawo in Ikorodu.

In his words: “You will recall that the Lagos State Government commenced a Competitive Bidding process for selecting a Concessionaire by issuing the Request for Expressions of Interest (REOI) on 27th of November, 2019. A total of 52 responses were received, with 32 being responsive.

“Subsequently, a Request for Quotation (RFQ) was issued on 10th February 2020 to the 32 eligible applicants, and responses were received on 15th April 2020 with a total of 15 responses. Upon evaluation, six bidders met the criteria to progress to the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage.”

He stated once more that the bridge would relieve congestion on the existing Carter, Eko, and Third Mainland Bridges while also opening up new areas of the city for future development.

George revealed that the proposed 37-kilometer bridge will cost between $2.5 billion and $3 billion.
