AbdulRazaq Submits ₦644bn 2026 Budget Proposal To Kwara Assembly

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has presented a ₦644.004 billion appropriation bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the Kwara State House of Assembly, with capital development and security taking centre stage. According to Ireporter Online, the budget proposal was formally laid before lawmakers on Monday at the Assembly complex in Ilorin.

The governor described the spending plan as a strategic financial blueprint aimed at consolidating ongoing development initiatives, completing key projects and addressing the immediate and long-term needs of residents across the state. He explained that the budget was carefully structured to sustain economic growth while improving the overall welfare of the people.

Details of the proposal showed that ₦424.7 billion, representing 65.98 per cent of the total estimate, was allocated to capital expenditure, while ₦219.3 billion, or 34.02 per cent, was set aside for recurrent spending. AbdulRazaq said the heavy tilt toward capital projects underscored his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, social investments and initiatives with lasting economic value.

The governor further disclosed that security received special attention in the 2026 budget, with increased funding earmarked for security equipment, operational vehicles and modern technological tools to strengthen the state’s capacity to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities. He noted that the enhanced security allocation was designed to safeguard lives and property while supporting a stable environment for development.

According to the governor, the proposed budget seeks to build on existing development gains while ensuring improved safety and living conditions for residents of the state.

In his response, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Salihu, assured the governor that lawmakers would thoroughly examine the appropriation bill in the best interest of the people. He stated that the House was encouraged by the spread of developmental projects across the state’s 16 local government areas and pledged that the proposal would undergo detailed legislative scrutiny to ensure effective and impactful implementation.
