The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed the full restoration of services along the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor following Monday’s incident that left 26 passengers injured. According to Ireporter Online, the Managing Director of the corporation, Kayode Opeifa, assured commuters that safety and operational standards have been enhanced to prevent future disruptions.

Opeifa, in a statement posted on his handle, explained that operations resumed promptly due to swift intervention by NRC personnel. “Following the incident on Monday, 16th March 2026, normal train operations have been fully restored through the rapid response of the Nigerian Railway Corporation,” he said. “Passengers can now confidently book tickets, as improved safety and operational measures have been implemented to ensure secure and comfortable journeys.”

The NRC also confirmed the successful return trip from Rigasa in Kaduna State, signalling a return to normalcy along the busy corridor. Opeifa acknowledged the support of HRH Alhaji Ishaq Ibrahim Tanko, Hakimin Idu District Head, in facilitating the resumption of services. “Train services are back to normal, safer and better,” he added.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:16 a.m. on Monday near Asham Station. The affected train, KA2, had departed Rigasa and made a scheduled stop at Jere before continuing its journey. After leaving Jere, where an additional rear locomotive had been attached, the locomotive became detached and collided with the rear of the same train, striking the power car and the last passenger coach.

The NRC clarified that the event was not a collision between two separate trains but an internal operational issue. Opeifa emphasised that enhanced safety protocols have been put in place to prevent recurrence and urged passengers to travel with confidence as the Abuja-Kaduna route returns to full operation.
