Three members of the House of Representatives under the Labour Party have urged the party’s factional chairman, Julius Abure, to stop sowing discord and chaos within the party.

This comes after Abure’s faction announced the suspension of key figures including Abia State Governor Alex Otti, FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe, National Caretaker Committee Secretary Darlington Nwokocha, and Reps members Afam Ogene (Ogbaru), Seyi Sowunmi (Ojo), and Amobi Ogah (Isuikwuato/Umuneochi).

In a strongly worded joint statement on Friday, Ogene, Sowunmi, and Ogah advised Abure to protect what remains of his image and integrity. The lawmakers criticized his leadership, claiming he has contributed nothing meaningful to the growth or success of the Labour Party.

“Yesterday’s overreach by Abure and his band of jesters only confirms what has become obvious to close observers of the Labour Party. Political parties exist to contest and participate meaningfully in democratic processes—not to serve personal vendettas.

“Since the Peter Obi wave of 2023, what tangible contribution has Abure or his clique made to strengthen the party? Let them name even one notable figure they’ve brought into the fold since then.

“From Kogi and Bayelsa to Ondo and Edo, Abure has led the party into one electoral disaster after another. He previously tried to remove Hon. Ogene as caucus leader—unsuccessfully—and has now resorted to fabricating suspension orders,” they stated.

The lawmakers concluded by accusing Abure of deliberately steering the party toward destruction. “He has cast himself as the undertaker of the Labour Party’s soul—but in doing so, he’s only preparing the grave for his own public image and political legacy. We sincerely wish him well.”
