AFCON 2025: Awaziem Pledges Versatility, Ready To Serve Super Eagles In Any Position

According to Ireporter Online, Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem has declared his readiness to contribute in any capacity for Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 campaign. The 28-year-old, who currently plays for FC Nantes, emphasized that his priority is the team’s success, regardless of his personal position on the pitch.

Awaziem, now one of the senior figures in the squad following the retirement of former captain William Troost-Ekong, will be making his fourth AFCON appearance after featuring in the 2019, 2021, and 2023 tournaments. He was part of the Nigerian side that secured bronze in Egypt and the runner-up team in Côte d’Ivoire, experiences he says have shaped his selfless approach.

“If the coach wants me to be a goalkeeper, I’m ready. If he wants me to be a striker, I’m ready,” Awaziem told Elegbete TV, highlighting his commitment to national glory over personal preference.

Leading the Super Eagles is striker Victor Osimhen, who has urged the team to maintain focus and determination from the start of the tournament. Speaking to Pooja Media, Osimhen stressed the need to fight for every ball and every match, aiming for nothing less than the trophy.

The Super Eagles will begin their AFCON 2025 campaign against Tanzania at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, with hopes of improving on their runners-up finish in the previous edition.
