“Afe Babalola Sounds Alarm: Poor Education Behind Nigeria’s Growing Crime Epidemic!”

Afe Babalola, a renowned lawyer and founder of Afe Babalola University, has linked the increasing crime rate in Nigeria to the country’s deteriorating educational standards.

According to IReporter Online, Babalola expressed this concern on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti while hosting the management of Ekiti State University (EKSU), led by its Vice-Chancellor Joseph Ayodele.

Babalola, who also served as the former pro-chancellor and chairman of the University of Lagos Council, argued that quality education is the key to curbing criminality in the country.

He stated, “Half education is more dangerous than no education,” emphasizing that many individuals involved in criminal activities today are products of a failing educational system.

According to IReporter Online, Babalola is calling for a systemic reform in education, combined with mass youth empowerment, as a solution to the nation’s crime problem.

He further challenged policymakers and stakeholders to prioritize research grants, innovation, and academic excellence, believing these areas are crucial to Nigeria’s national progress and security.

Babalola’s call to action aligns with his long-standing belief that education is vital for sustainable development and peace in Nigeria.

During the event, the Vice-Chancellor of Afe Babalola University, Smaranda Olarinde, praised Babalola for his visionary leadership, particularly in making ABUAD a trailblazer in critical sectors such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and quality healthcare.

Olarinde highlighted the ABUAD Multi-System Hospital, which she described as the “most well-equipped hospital in Sub-Saharan Africa” and a solution to Nigeria’s medical tourism crisis.

According to IReporter Online, the hospital’s recent success in delivering twins for a 60-year-old woman stands as a testament to the institution’s commitment to world-class healthcare.

EKSU’s Vice-Chancellor, Ayodele, also spoke highly of Babalola, calling him “an unrepentant philanthropist” who consistently adds value to society.

He commended the impressive infrastructure at ABUAD and suggested collaboration between both institutions in agriculture, research, and student exchange programs.

“With 14 hectares of tomato farms at EKSU ready for harvest, we recognize the need to deepen expertise in agriculture, a vital sector for Nigeria’s future,” Ayodele remarked.

According to IReporter Online, this collaboration is seen as an opportunity to enhance both universities’ contributions to Nigeria’s development.

Christie Oluborode, ABUAD’s Registrar, also expressed gratitude for the visit, noting that Ayodele is the first EKSU Vice-Chancellor to lead a delegation to ABUAD in 42 years, marking a significant moment in the history of both institutions.
