Amaechi Challenges Wike To Popularity Test, Questions Lack Of Respect

Former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, has thrown down the gauntlet to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, daring him to embark on a walk from Abuja to Port Harcourt to prove who truly enjoys grassroots support.

Amaechi, who also served as Governor of Rivers State, made the remarks on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he lamented Wike’s apparent lack of respect towards him.

“I don’t understand why he doesn’t respect people like us. I’m older than him, and I brought him up in politics. Who exactly is he?” Amaechi queried.

He challenged, “Let the Minister of the FCT come; let’s take a walk from the airport to Port Harcourt — no police, no army, just the two of us. That way, we’ll see who is truly popular.”

In the course of the interview, Amaechi also confirmed his exit from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that he formally resigned from the party on Tuesday.
