Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has alleged that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar made minimal efforts to secure the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to Ireporter Online, Lawal made the remarks on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he reflected on the party’s presidential primary that produced Atiku as its candidate.

He stated that members of the party had anticipated a highly competitive race among major contenders, noting that former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, appeared to be the most active and visible aspirant throughout the buildup to the primary.

Lawal said Amaechi showed strong confidence in his chances and actively engaged party stakeholders across different levels, insisting that the former governor worked extensively to secure support ahead of the contest.

In contrast, he accused Atiku of maintaining a low-profile approach during the period leading up to the primary, suggesting that the former vice president was largely inactive compared to other aspirants.

He further claimed that Atiku did not participate vigorously in campaigning or outreach efforts, adding that his perceived lack of engagement raised questions among party members at the time.

Lawal, who recently resigned from the ADC following the presidential primary, also alleged that the process was marred by irregularities and accused Atiku’s camp of manipulating the outcome.

He maintained that the result of the primary did not reflect the true preference of party members and has continued to insist that the exercise lacked internal credibility.
