Amosun Endorses Tinubu 2027, Demands Southern Presidency Continues
According to Ireporter Online, former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027, urging Nigerians to respect the principle of rotational presidency by allowing political power to remain in the South until 2031.
Amosun made the declaration on Sunday during his 68th birthday celebration at the Ake Pavilion in Abeokuta, Ogun State, describing adherence to the rotation as essential for preserving political balance and strengthening Nigeria’s democratic equity.
The former governor’s stance aligns with other prominent figures, including former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara and ex-Inspector General of Police Mike Okiro, who have also advocated for the continuation of Southern leadership beyond 2027.
Amosun warned that violating the informal zoning arrangement could undermine Nigeria’s fragile unity, stressing the importance of continuity in leadership from the South. He also praised President Tinubu’s representation of the Southwest and the South as a whole, calling it “robust” and commendable.
Sunday’s event served as both a personal celebration and a political gathering, drawing a large crowd of supporters alongside high-profile All Progressives Congress (APC) figures such as former Minister of Mines and Steel Development Lekan Adegbite, former Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK Sarafa Tunji Ishola, ex-CBN Deputy Governor Tunde Lemo, and Senators Iyabo Anisulowo and Gbenga Obadara.
Amosun reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, describing himself as one of the party’s pillars in Ogun State, and emphasized his commitment to protecting the political structures he helped establish. He stressed that respecting the rotation principle would ensure fairness, uphold national unity, and maintain the South’s rightful place in leadership following eight years of Northern presidency under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
