Amotekun Hands Over Suspected Paedophile Imam to Police After Mob Violence

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of an Islamic cleric, identified as Kadiri, for allegedly defiling a minor in the Babasanya-Araka area of Ede.

The incident sparked outrage among residents, leading to a violent protest where an angry mob attacked the suspect before security operatives intervened.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, the suspect was handed over to the police by Amotekun operatives following a report of the crime.

“The case is under investigation at the divisional level before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID),” Ojelabi stated.

Idowu Yusuf, spokesperson for the Amotekun Corps, revealed that the suspect is an Imam who also runs an Arabic school in the community.

A local resident, who spoke anonymously, disclosed that the victim, an eight-year-old girl, was found bleeding after going missing for hours. She was rushed to a hospital in Ede for medical attention.

Further investigations are ongoing as authorities work to ensure justice is served.
