In a significant political shift, Sidney Egede, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, has led a substantial number of party members from Oredo Ward 1 to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Egede cited the APC’s failure to present a suitable candidate for the upcoming governorship election on September 21 as the primary reason for this mass defection.

“We are concerned that the APC ticket went to someone less qualified compared to aspirants like Osagie Ize-Iyamu, David Imuse, and Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe,” Egede said. He expressed frustration over the party’s choice and assured that more APC members are expected to join the PDP before the election.

Oluwole Uzzi, the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, welcomed the defectors, praising their decision to switch parties as a courageous move.

The dispute stems from a 2007 contract with Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Ltd, which led to the seizure of the jets over a contractual disagreement. Daniel emphasized that discussing the matter publicly will not aid in resolving the legal issues but reassured his support in any way necessary.
