APC Drops Full Schedule For Congresses & National Convention Ahead Of 2027 Elections [Full Details]
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to begin the election of party officials from the ward level to the national level next Monday as part of its early preparations for the 2027 general elections. According to political sources, the exercise will span ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, culminating in a national convention at the end of March.
The announcement follows the conclusion of the party’s nationwide digital membership e-registration exercise, which was launched in December 2025 and is scheduled to end on January 30, 2026. The initiative integrates National Identity Number (NIN) verification and digital data capture, aiming to improve membership records, demographic analysis, and grassroots mobilisation.
The commencement of the congresses was confirmed during a meeting of the Progressive Governors Forum in Abuja, where APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and members of the National Working Committee briefed governors on the timetable and digital membership update. The forum emphasized adherence to the National Executive Committee-approved schedule, stressing transparency, inclusiveness, and internal democracy as central to maintaining party cohesion.
Governors in attendance included Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Mohammed Idris (Kebbi), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Ahmad Aliyu (Sokoto), Usman Ododo (Kogi), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), and Umar Bago (Niger), among others.
In a communiqué, the Progressive Governors Forum reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening internal democracy, enhancing party structures, and advancing reforms that promote transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness. The governors welcomed the briefing on the national e-registration exercise, noting its growth in youth participation and integration of NIN verification, which they said would support data-driven planning and deepen grassroots engagement.
The forum also endorsed the full timetable and institutional framework for the congresses and national convention, emphasizing transparent financial management to ensure fairness and consistency across all states. It underscored the importance of party unity, responsible leadership communication, and internal discipline in maintaining public confidence in the APC’s democratic processes. Strategic state visits are planned to reinforce grassroots party structures, beginning with Taraba State.
The APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, released the detailed timetable, outlining key dates for the congresses. Notices for ward and local government congresses will be issued from February 2, with form purchase and submission from February 4 to February 9. Ward congresses are scheduled for February 18, and local government congresses for February 20, with appeals following shortly after. State congresses will hold on March 7, with zonal congresses across six geopolitical zones slated for March 21. The process will conclude with the National Convention from March 25 to March 28, marking the completion of the party’s internal elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
