APC May Back Kachikwu’s Lawsuit to Disrupt ADC Coalition – Expert

Political analyst and professor at Nasarawa State University, Jideofor Adibe, has suggested that the All Progressives Congress (APC) might support Dumebi Kachikwu’s legal battle against the new leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), viewing it as a means to weaken a growing opposition coalition.

Speaking Thursday on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Adibe noted that Kachikwu, the ADC’s 2023 presidential candidate, recently threatened legal action over what he described as a forceful takeover of the party by a coalition led by ex-Senate President David Mark and former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola.

While Kachikwu accused the group of hijacking the party, former ADC Chairman Ralph Nwosu had already formally handed over leadership to Mark and Aregbesola as interim National Chairman and Secretary.

“This is the only thing that can give him a headline,” Adibe remarked about Kachikwu’s legal threats. “He came from nowhere and became ADC presidential candidate—probably didn’t even get a handful of votes at his polling unit. The APC and the government will be happy to amplify his narrative.”

The professor said the new opposition bloc, which includes figures like Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and Bolaji Abdullahi, still faces major hurdles despite their impressive political resumes.

“These are tested politicians,” Adibe stated. “David Mark is a retired general and Nigeria’s longest-serving Senate President; Aregbesola engineered Tinubu’s loss in Osun; Obi, known as Okwute (the Rock), took on Anambra godfathers; El-Rufai is fearless and technocratic; Amaechi fought Jonathan to a standstill.”

However, he stressed, “It is still not Uhuru for them. They’ve reached this level, which deserves credit, but the road ahead remains tough.”

Adibe concluded that any internal wrangling in the ADC would be an advantage for the ruling APC, especially as the 2027 elections approach.
