Nigeria is about to experience one of the biggest political events of 2021, the APC national congress which would unveil its next chairman and the NWC of the party.

With the successful completion of the PDP National Convention at Eagle Square which witnessed the emergence of  Dr Iyorchia Ayu as its national chairman, all eyes are now fixated on the APC to hold its national congress.

Saliu Mustapha

Although the APC is yet to announce the exact date, the Party Congress is expected to take place sometime in December. The party hopes an improved performance will energise its supporters in crucial elections ahead.

A founding member of the APC and former Deputy National Chairman of the CPC, Mallam Saliu Mustapha is rising in opinion polls ahead of the congress just as other contenders take a drop in popularity test.

The Turaki of Ilorin appears to be trying to expand the electoral map of APC with his tantalizing agenda for transformation.

Buoyed by a poll giving him ample advantage, Saliu Mustapha looks confident of pulling the rug out of his competitors. With a rising call for a paradigm shift in the administration of the party more stakeholders have openly thrown their weight behind the Kwara grassroots politician.

A group under the aegis of United Progressives For Positive Change,UPPC a pressure group within the APC that claims to have members across the six geo-political zones describes  Mallam Saliu Mustapha’s candidacy as the perfect bridge between all party stakeholders.

“It is a known fact that Mallam Saliu Mustapha would bring his wealth of experience into play and change the fortunes of our party for the better, his rich history of reaching out to the people irrespective of class and gender has endeared him to the majority of us in the APC.

He is the ideal bridge-builder we seek. His consistency with staying with the progressives is a consideration and would be an advantage to his aspirations, we progressives standing for positive change in the APC are fully behind Saliu Mustapha” Comrade Etuk Udom, Vice Chairman, UPPC South-South.

Resolving the infighting.

Many party stakeholders are rooting for Mallam Saliu Mustapha over his proficiency in handling internal party squabbles, according to them the Turaki of Ilorin is a PERFECT bridge builder that can bring all fighting gladiators in the party together. They rate him high amongst his contemporaries in handling party disputes.

“Saliu Mustapha who happens to be the masses man is coming to the table with no baggage or bloated Ego to massage, we need a national chairman that would hit the ground running in turning around the prosperity of our great party.

We don’t need a chairman that would be having endless battles with party stalwarts. Saliu Mustapha is on the ground and we are fully in support f his chairmanship ambition.” Dr Shola Olayinka, Ogun State.

The APC is looking forward to uniting all aggrieved party members well ahead of the 2023 general elections and party respondents are confident that Saliu is capable of handling the challenges of bringing together all warring parties.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Many analysts are looking at the APC conducting one of its most transparent and acceptable congresses since its formation, four different polls conducted ahead of the congress puts Saliu in the lead with a large number of people saying he would do a better job as National Chairman than any of his competitors.

The APC would seek to expand its membership drive and create an enabling environment for a free and fair contest. Already the National Caretaker Committee of the party is not leaving any stone unturned in its quest to ensure a hitch-free and acceptable congress.
