APC Stands Firm! Basiru Dismisses Hopes Of Opposition Takeover

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims of an impending implosion within the party, describing such reports as the wishful thinking of opposition groups.

According to Ireporter Online, the speculation of internal collapse emerged following the party’s recent congresses and ahead of its national convention, with opposition parties suggesting that defections of governors, lawmakers, and other political figures into the APC could trigger instability.

Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the APC, said in an interview that there is no indication of any crisis within the ruling party. He stated that the party’s recent congresses and the upcoming convention and primaries would reinforce unity rather than create divisions, contrary to opposition expectations.

Basiru urged opposition parties to focus on their own organisational strength instead of anticipating the failure of other platforms. “It is just the wishful thinking of the opposition, and it is not going to happen,” he said, adding that aside from minor issues in a few states, the party’s congresses were conducted smoothly.

He further emphasised that the APC’s primaries would be carried out transparently and fairly, ensuring accountability. “We’re organised and united. Our primaries will be conducted in a way that will shock the opposition,” Basiru said, cautioning rivals not to base their electoral strategies on hopes of the ruling party collapsing.
