APC Targets Clean Sweep in Rivers State Local Government Polls

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence in winning all available seats in the forthcoming Rivers State Local Government Council elections scheduled for August 30, 2025.

The party’s National Vice Chairman for the South-South, Victor Giadom, made this declaration during the official campaign flag-off and presentation of party flags to chairmanship candidates at a rally in Port Harcourt, according to Ireporter Online.

Speaking through former Senator Magnus Abe, Giadom charged the candidates to maintain good conduct, uphold quality representation, and embody the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu once in office.

He stated that the APC in Rivers State is “united, strong, and ready to deliver the dividends of democracy to the grassroots,” praising the state executive for conducting seamless primaries that produced the party’s candidates.

Giadom urged all Rivers residents to join the APC, describing the election as “no contest” given the party’s unity and mass mobilisation.

In his remarks, Rivers State APC Chairman Tony Okocha explained that the party’s decision to participate in this year’s council elections was influenced by the new leadership of the State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), which he said had adopted transparent processes absent in previous polls.

He stressed that the APC intends not only to contest but to win in all 23 local government areas and 319 wards across the state.

Okocha commended Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike for uniting politicians from different parties to support President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, describing the PDP as “brothers” to the APC and pledging a violence-free election.

He officially declared campaigns open across all LGAs and wards in the state, urging candidates to engage with the electorate peacefully and work to further strengthen the APC’s dominance in Rivers politics, according to Ireporter Online.

Party flags were later presented to chairmanship candidates and their female deputies, symbolising the official start of grassroots mobilisation ahead of the August polls, according to Ireporter Online.
