Seun Onigbinde, founder of BudgIT, has defended his decision to delete past social media posts critical of Peter Obi’s tenure as governor of Anambra State.

The deleted tweets, which dated back to 2015, resurfaced recently and sparked widespread debate—particularly as Onigbinde has since publicly supported Obi’s presidential ambition.

Addressing the controversy, Onigbinde asserted that he owes no one an explanation for deleting the posts, explaining the move was a response to a wave of misinformation, personal attacks, and online harassment.

“I don’t owe you that explanation, nor do I have the time or interest to engage in such distractions,” he said. He emphasized that social media has always been a space for him to learn, share, and reflect—and that any tweet lacking context or clarity would be removed at his discretion.

Onigbinde also criticized the polarizing nature of platforms like , describing them as fostering a toxic “with us or against us” mentality. He referred to the platform as a “poisoned well” plagued by anonymity, virality, and coordinated trolling that stifles meaningful dialogue.

“My commitment to public accountability remains unwavering,” he said, reiterating that constructive civic engagement should be based on data, respect for differing opinions, and a collective desire to improve Nigeria.

He encouraged young Nigerians to rise above divisive narratives and embrace unity across backgrounds. “I’ve been shaped by friendships and support from people across faiths, races, and genders,” he added.

Onigbinde also warned that individuals who misrepresent his work at BudgIT, Tracka, or in his hometown of Ogbomoso would be muted or blocked, as he has no patience for baseless, hostile commentary.
