Bago Hails Tinubu Following Crackdown On Mahmuda Leader
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the arrest of Abubakar Abba, the leader of Mahmuda, one of Nigeria’s most feared terror groups, by the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to iReporter Online, Abba was captured in Wawa, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State and has been transferred to Abuja for further investigation.
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Bologi, Governor Bago described the arrest as evidence of Tinubu’s commitment to the safety and welfare of Nigerians.
According to iReporter Online, he stated, “Yes, it is true. I can confirm that the leader of Mahmuda, one of the most dangerous terror groups in West Africa, Abubakar Abba, has been apprehended alive through an intelligence-led operation by the DSS.
This is a huge victory for us as a people and as a government, and President Tinubu deserves commendation for this cheering news.”
Bago added that Abba’s capture reflects the president’s determination to end insecurity and promote the well-being of Nigerians.
He noted the strategic appointments in the security services, especially within the DSS, which enabled such a high-profile arrest without a single shot being fired.
He emphasized, “Where there is a will, they say, there is a way. Mr. President has consistently shown that willpower, and that is why we are recording such successes.”
The governor pledged that Niger State would continue collaborating with the federal government and security agencies to curb terrorism across the country.
According to iReporter Online, reports had earlier circulated about Abba’s disappearance, raising suspicions among residents of Niger and Kwara States, who had long lived in fear of Mahmuda.
After weeks of surveillance, DSS operatives successfully tracked and arrested Abba in Wawa, Borgu Local Government Area.
