Battle for 2027 Presidency: Atiku Is Tinubu’s Only Worry – Igbokwe Fires!”

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has asserted that the only notable political figure currently positioning to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 election is former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Taking to his Facebook page on Tuesday, Igbokwe remarked that despite Atiku’s efforts, he stands little chance against Tinubu. He argued that Atiku’s credibility had already been severely damaged by his former boss, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, particularly in his memoir My Watch.

He wrote:

“The only person challenging PBAT in the 2027 elections is Atiku Abubakar. But sadly, his former boss, President Olusegun Obasanjo, crushed and buried his reputation in his book, My Watch. It is what it is.”

In a related development, Igbokwe also voiced concern over the continued marginalisation of the South-East region, warning of potential consequences if the exclusion persists. Posting again on Facebook, he joined the growing number of voices protesting what they view as lopsided federal appointments under President Tinubu.

His comments followed recent warnings by Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South, who cautioned that the imbalance could have political repercussions. The presidency, however, has defended the appointments, insisting they are based strictly on merit.

Igbokwe stressed the importance of inclusion and unity in governance, warning:

“If Nigeria continues to treat the South-East as if the zone does not exist or does not matter, the consequences will be huge. The civil war has ended, but the scars remain. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Neglecting the South-East is wrong.”

His remarks reflect growing demands for equitable representation and national cohesion as the Tinubu administration shapes its political legacy.
