Bode George Blasts Akpabio For Disparaging PDP, Calls Him Ungrateful To Party That Made Him

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has taken a swipe at Senate President Godswill Akpabio for ridiculing the PDP and describing it as defunct.

Akpabio, while speaking at an All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South meeting in Benin City, Edo State on Saturday, dismissed both the PDP and the African Democratic Congress-led coalition as insignificant ahead of the 2027 elections. He joked that regardless of the party’s name — whether “Adamu United,” “Ada-Obi,” or “ADC” — the South-South was solidly behind President Bola Tinubu and the APC.

Reacting in an interview with Punch, Bode George said Akpabio’s comments were both disrespectful and showed a lack of gratitude to the PDP, which he reminded was the platform that made Akpabio governor of Akwa Ibom State and propelled his political career.

“I wish him well, but he should remember who made him. Today, he’s using his left hand to point at the house that raised him. Who gave him that opportunity? It was the PDP. The same party stood behind him all the way. He should reflect before making such careless remarks,” George said.

He further highlighted that history would not forget how the PDP shaped the political journeys of figures like Akpabio and former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

George also hinted at reasons behind Okowa’s recent political maneuvers, urging Nigerians to revisit past comments by Adams Oshiomhole for clarity.

Notably, Akpabio served two terms as governor under the PDP, was once chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, and entered the Senate on the party’s ticket in 2015 before defecting to the APC in 2018, resigning as Senate Minority Leader to do so.
