BREAKING: Atiku Heads To Tribunal To Challenge Tinubu’s Victory (DETAILS)

Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, has petitioned the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to challenge the declaration of All Progressives Congress (APC) President-elect Bola Tinubu.

Silas Joseph Onu, a member of Atiku’s Legal Team, confirmed the filing on Tuesday evening.

This comes just hours after Tinubu’s status as the winner of the presidential election on February 25, 2023, was challenged by the Labour Party (LP) and its candidate, Mr Peter Obi, at the election petitions tribunal in Abuja.

The petition marked: CA/PEPC/03/2023, has INEC; Tinubu; his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, and the APC as the 1st to 4th respondents.

The petitioners are praying for the tribunal to declare that Tinubu was not duly elected by a majority of the lawful votes cast at the election. They want an order mandating INEC to retrieve the certificate of return issued to the APC candidate.

Atiku, in the petition, marked: CA/PEPC/05/2023, which he lodged before the Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, sitting at the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, applied for the withdrawal of the Certificate of Return that was issued to Tinubu by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

He maintained that the declaration of Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election was “invalid by reason of non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022”.

Atiku, through his team of lawyers led by Mr Joe Kyari Gadzama, SAN, further argued that Tinubu’s election was invalid by reason of corrupt practices.
