BREAKING: Fresh Setback As Two Rivers Lawmakers Step Back From Fubara Impeachment Plot

According to Ireporter Online, the lawmakers—Barile Nwakoh, who represents Khana Constituency I, and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II—urged their colleagues to suspend the impeachment process and embrace dialogue in the interest of peace and stability within the state.

Their decision comes barely 24 hours after two other legislators made similar appeals, signaling growing dissent within the assembly over the impeachment plan. Although Nwakoh and Amadi maintained that there were alleged constitutional breaches by the governor and his deputy, they explained that their change of stance followed interventions from respected leaders and stakeholders within the state.

With this latest development, four of the 26 lawmakers who initially endorsed the impeachment notice have now publicly called for a peaceful resolution, suggesting a shift in the political dynamics surrounding the crisis.

The Rivers State House of Assembly is expected to reconvene on January 15, 2026, to deliberate further on the matter, as the political situation continues to unfold.

In a related development, earlier reports recalled that the Minority Leader, Sylvanus Nwankwo, alongside Peter Abbey, had also withdrawn their backing for the impeachment process. Both lawmakers cited appeals from influential political figures within and outside Rivers State, urging the assembly to explore reconciliation rather than pursue impeachment.

They appealed to fellow legislators to abandon the impeachment route and adopt alternative mechanisms to resolve the leadership crisis currently confronting the state.
