According to Ireporter Online, the Lagos State Government has sealed a branch of Access Bank on Land Bridge Avenue, Oniru, Victoria Island, over environmental violations. The enforcement action was taken after the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, acting on a whistleblower report, confirmed that the branch had been discharging untreated faecal waste into public drainage systems.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the closure was part of a joint enforcement operation aimed at addressing illegal dumping and environmental degradation. “Following a tip from a whistleblower, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, in collaboration with other relevant agencies, sealed off the branch after confirming the indiscriminate discharge of raw faecal matter into drainage channels, causing foul odors and violating state environmental laws,” Wahab stated.

He further noted that the bank would face sanctions in accordance with prevailing environmental regulations. The closure is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to enforce environmental compliance and improve sanitation, particularly in high-density commercial areas such as Victoria Island.
