Breaking: Malami’s Bail Application Delayed Over Wike’s Election Break

The scheduled bail application for former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), was postponed on Friday due to a work-free day declared by the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.

According to reports, proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja could not take place as planned because of the ministerial order. Wike had announced the work-free day and imposed movement restrictions from 8 pm on Friday to 6 pm on Saturday in preparation for the Area Council elections set for Saturday, February 21, 2026.

In adherence to the directive, the court was unable to sit to rule on Malami’s bail application. The hearing has now been rescheduled for February 27, 2026.

An eyewitness, Abdulrahman Ibrahim Sahihi, confirmed the development, stating, “We’re live from the Federal High Court where Malami’s court session with DSS was expected today. The judge had earlier adjourned for bail consideration, but court officials surprisingly announced today is a work-free day. Proceedings have now been rescheduled to February 27, 2026.”

Malami, along with his son, Abdulaziz Abubakar Malami, was arraigned on February 3 before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, following charges brought by the Department of State Services (DSS). The defendants face a five-count charge, including allegations of terrorism financing, aiding and abetting terrorism, and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. Both pleaded not guilty to the charges.
