BREAKING: Nigerian Labour Leader D!es During Meeting In Geneva

The Chairman of the Lagos State Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), Domingo Michael Adeleke, has died while participating in the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva, Switzerland.

According to reports, Adeleke, who was part of Nigeria’s delegation to the global labour gathering, passed away on Tuesday after suffering a brief illness. He was said to have fallen ill during the event and was taken for medical treatment, where he later died.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) confirmed the development through an official statement, describing the late labour leader as a dedicated unionist whose lifelong commitment to workers’ welfare and social justice earned him respect across the labour movement.

The Congress noted that Adeleke remained steadfast in his advocacy for decent work and the protection of workers’ rights, emphasizing that his passion for the labour cause took him to the international stage until his final moments.

Until his death, Adeleke was also an active member of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), where he contributed significantly to advancing the interests of civil servants and promoting improved working conditions.

The NLC further disclosed that its leadership had visited the hospital where his remains are being kept in Geneva as a mark of solidarity and had commenced the necessary procedures for the repatriation of his body to Nigeria.

Describing his passing as a huge loss to the Nigerian labour movement, the Congress extended condolences to his family, colleagues, and workers across Lagos State and the country, expressing hope that his legacy of commitment to workers’ rights and social justice would continue to inspire future generations of trade unionists.
