BREAKING: Obasanjo’s Daughter Makes Ogun Gov Ambition Official, Joins APC

According to Ireporter Online, Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, has formally declared her intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The declaration was made during a radio interview with Nigerian football icon Segun Odegbami on 103.7FM Eagle7 Sports on Saturday, where the former commissioner spoke extensively about her political plans and motivations.

Obasanjo made it clear that she has no intention of returning to the Senate or seeking any appointive position, stressing that her sole political ambition moving forward is the governorship of Ogun State. She noted that her decision was deliberate, describing a return to previous roles or political platforms as unnecessary.

She disclosed that the governorship ambition had been carefully considered over time and discussed with close associates before she decided to fully commit to the race. According to her, preparations for the political journey have already begun, adding that she and her supporters are determined to see the project through with seriousness and dedication.

The politician also confirmed her recent defection to the APC, explaining that her return to active politics was influenced by sustained encouragement from supporters who had been mobilising independently for years. She revealed that the group approached her formally about a year ago, urging her to accept their backing and return to the political scene, believing she was best suited for the task.

Her announcement is expected to reshape the political landscape in Ogun State, setting the tone for what observers anticipate will be a highly competitive governorship contest ahead of the 2027 general elections.
