Breaking: Police Officer Arrested For Alleged Coup Plot – Identity Revealed
A police officer has been named among the security personnel arrested by military authorities over an alleged attempt to overthrow Nigeria’s democratic government. According to Ireporter Online, the officer, identified as Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim from Taraba State, was reportedly taken into custody in Abuja by operatives of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) and is currently being held at the agency’s facility.
Investigations that led to the arrests are said to have uncovered information linking some of the detained military officers to the alleged plot. A military source disclosed that those in custody include officers from the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force, alongside one police officer. “Yes, among those in DIA’s custody is a policeman,” the source confirmed, adding that the total number of detained security operatives stands at 36.
The source further indicated that Inspector Ibrahim’s arrest followed investigations allegedly connecting him to the attempted coup. Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Nigeria Police Force were unsuccessful, with calls and messages to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, reportedly going unanswered.
This development follows the arrest of several military officers in October 2025 over allegations of plotting against President Bola Tinubu’s government. The Defence Intelligence Agency, Nigeria’s primary military intelligence body, is handling the ongoing investigation under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt.-Gen. Emmanuel Parker Undiandeye. Initially, military authorities had characterized the earlier arrests as matters of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations, downplaying claims of a coup. However, on January 26, 2026, the Defence Headquarters acknowledged that some of the detained officers were implicated in plans to overthrow the government.
