BREAKING: Senator Abaribe Defects From APGA To ADC

According to Ireporter Online, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South Senatorial Zone, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The announcement was made on Wednesday at the Nike Lake Resort in Enugu, during an event that also marked the official entry of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi into the ADC.

Abaribe, who had joined APGA in 2023 after leaving his previous party to contest and secure the Abia South senatorial seat, confirmed his resignation, stating, “Let me also announce that this morning I resigned from the All-Progressive Grand Alliance.” He pledged full allegiance to the ADC, describing Obi as his political leader, and expressed optimism about the party’s potential.

Reflecting on a prior media interaction, the former Senate Minority Leader emphasized his belief in collective action as a path to meaningful change. He applauded the ADC as a platform for a broad-based political movement aimed at addressing Nigeria’s challenges and challenging the ruling party. “When the time comes, the whole of us are going into ADC, and we shall remove the cancer that has held Nigeria down since 2015,” he said.

Abaribe also criticized the All Progressives Congress, saying the party “promised change but brought death and destruction to Nigeria.”

Peter Obi, speaking at the same event, urged Nigerians and opposition groups to unite under a single national coalition to tackle the country’s socio-economic and political challenges. According to Obi, his decision to align with the ADC is driven by national interest and patriotism. “I now respectfully call on my political associates, the Obidient Movement, and opposition leaders across the country to join this broad national coalition under the African Democratic Congress,” he said, warning that “history will not forgive silence in moments of national peril.”
