According to Ireporter Online, the Zamfara State Police Command has intercepted a vehicle conveying 954 suspected explosive materials believed to have been destined for bandits operating within the state.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Yazid Abubakar, who disclosed that the driver of the vehicle, identified as Mustapha Mohammad, has been arrested in connection with the seizure.

Abubakar explained that the operation was carried out by operatives of the Task Force on Illegal Mining following credible and actionable intelligence. He stated that the task force, led by ASP Aminu Aliyu, conducted the operation at about 4:15 p.m. on January 27, 2027, resulting in the successful interception of the suspect.

He added that the suspect, a 38-year-old man, was apprehended while driving a Toyota Corolla with registration number KUJ 933 EJ. A thorough search of the vehicle reportedly led to the discovery of 954 pieces of suspected explosive materials concealed inside polyethylene bags.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, indicate that the recovered items were intended for use by bandits in the production of improvised explosive devices.

The police spokesperson further stated that the suspect remains in custody, while the recovered explosives have been transferred to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit for safekeeping and detailed forensic examination.

Abubakar noted that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the source and intended destination of the explosives, as well as to identify other individuals who may be linked to the operation. He assured that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.

The interception comes barely a week after a similar incident in Oyo State, where police operatives reportedly intercepted a truck laden with materials suspected to be components for explosive devices in the Saki area of Oke-Ogun.
