British National Declared Wanted by Nigerian Police for Alleged Plot to Overthrow Tinubu’s Government

Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian Police have declared British citizen Andrew Wynne, also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey, wanted for allegedly orchestrating a plot to destabilize the administration of President Bola Tinubu. Authorities claim that Wynne, a known socialist, built a network of sleeper cells with the intent of plunging the nation into chaos through unconstitutional means.

Subversive Activities Uncovered

Police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Monday, revealed that Wynne rented space at Labour House in Abuja, where he operated an ‘Iva Valley Bookshop’ and established ‘STARS of Nations Schools’ as a cover for his subversive activities. The police allege that Wynne used these establishments to mobilize and fund local collaborators in a bid to instigate violent protests and call for a military takeover of the government.

Despite his long-standing reputation as a committed socialist advocating for workers’ rights, Nigerian authorities have painted a starkly different picture of Wynne, accusing him of being at the center of a conspiracy to overthrow the Nigerian government. His supporters, however, maintain that he is being wrongfully targeted for his peaceful activism.

Nationwide Crackdown

Following intelligence reports and collaboration with other security agencies, the Nigerian Police have arrested nine suspects linked to Wynne’s alleged network. These individuals are accused of receiving substantial foreign funding to destabilize the country, orchestrate violent protests, and spread false information to justify an illegal regime change.

Wynne, who has since fled the country, and one of his local coordinators, Lucky Ehis Obiyan, have been declared wanted by the authorities. The police have activated INTERPOL and other global policing networks to track down the suspects.

Legal Ramifications

The suspects already in custody have been arraigned on charges of Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion, and Cybercrime, all of which are violations of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act 2011 and other relevant Nigerian laws.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has condemned the group’s activities and assured the public that no effort will be spared in bringing those involved to justice. He emphasized the importance of national security and warned citizens to be vigilant against subversive elements who exploit and commercialize protests for personal and ideological gain.

The police have appealed for the cooperation of all law-abiding citizens in the ongoing investigation, promising handsome rewards for information leading to the arrest of the wanted suspects. The authorities reaffirmed their commitment to protecting citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly and free expression but cautioned against those who seek to exploit these rights for unlawful purposes.
