CAMPUS TERROR: Ondo Varsity Registrar Gunned Down In Cold Blood, Police Confirm
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed that Mr. Ezekiel Imole Adeniran, Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) in Ondo, was assassinated, putting an end to initial speculations about the nature of his death.
The news has sent shockwaves through the academic community, with grief and outrage erupting across the institution and beyond.
According to iReporter Online, Mr. Adeniran was discovered lifeless in his residence in Ondo City on the morning of Thursday, July 17, 2025. Although UNIMED initially described his passing as “sudden,” police investigations have now shifted to treating the case as a targeted murder.
Spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed to reporters that the case, logged at the Fanibi Police Division, bears the hallmarks of a planned killing. “I can confirm to you that the man was killed. From what we know, two men emerged from the bush and forced an unknown substance into another person’s mouth,” Ayanlade stated. While details remain unclear, the police say efforts are underway to unmask those behind the crime.
According to iReporter Online, the late Mr. Adeniran had only resumed his role as UNIMED’s third substantive registrar on January 6, 2025. The tragic incident has deeply unsettled the university community, which described the news as both shocking and devastating.
In an official statement issued by the institution’s Head of Media and Protocol, Isaac Oluyi, the registrar’s sudden death was confirmed, with the university lamenting the loss of a diligent and highly respected administrator. “The devastating news has thrown the university into mourning, as it was shocking! He was still at his duty post on Monday, July 14, 2025,” the statement read.
Also reacting, the university’s Head of Human Resources, M.A. Akinkuade, described Mr. Adeniran as a committed and hardworking staff member who made significant contributions to the growth of the university. He expressed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the entire management.
According to iReporter Online, police authorities are now calling on members of the public with relevant information to step forward and aid the investigation. Meanwhile, tributes continue to pour in as colleagues, students, and friends struggle to come to terms with the loss.
