CBN Maintains Interest Rate At 27% Following Unanimous MPC Decision
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has retained its Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) at 27 percent, after all 12 members of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) voted in favor of keeping the rate unchanged.
CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso announced the decision during a press briefing following the committee’s 303rd meeting in Abuja. The governor explained that the committee opted to maintain current policy settings to consolidate recent gains in economic stability.
“The committee decided to maintain the MPR at 27 percent and adjust the standing facility corridor around MPR +50 and -450 basis points,” Cardoso stated, noting that other key policy tools were also left unchanged.
He further explained that the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) remains at 45 percent for commercial banks and 75 percent for non-Treasury Single Account public sector deposits, while the liquidity ratio continues at 30 percent.
Cardoso highlighted that the decision was guided by “low and stable inflation” in recent months, with the committee choosing policy continuity to sustain this positive trend. The governor reiterated the CBN’s commitment to implementing measures that preserve price stability and reinforce economic resilience.
The MPC is scheduled to hold its next meeting in the first quarter of 2026.
