Confirmed: 114 Nigerian Universities Now Cleared To Run Law Programs – See Full List

According to Ireporter Online, the Council of Legal Education (CLE) has published a list of 114 universities authorised to offer law programmes in Nigeria. The council, in a circular released on Friday, March 13, emphasised that only these institutions are permitted to admit students into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme.

The circular, signed by the Council’s Secretary and Director of Administration, Aderonke Osho, warned universities operating unapproved law programmes to cease immediately, noting that violations could attract sanctions. The council stated that students admitted into unapproved programmes would be ineligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School, making it impossible for them to complete the mandatory professional training required to practice law in Nigeria.

The council urged prospective students and parents to verify the approval status of institutions before applying for law programmes. It also highlighted that the list of approved universities would be reviewed and updated periodically, and reiterated that only the official CLE list should be relied upon when seeking admission into law faculties.

The approved universities span across Nigeria and include prominent institutions such as Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; University of Lagos, Akoka; University of Ibadan, Ibadan; Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; and Bayero University, Kano, among others. The full list comprises federal, state, and private universities across all regions of the country.
