Crystal Palace Omits Christantus Uche From Conference League Squad

Crystal Palace have omitted Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche from their revised UEFA Conference League squad after securing the January signings of Brennan Johnson, Jorgen Strand Larsen, and Evann Guessand. The adjustment was necessary after the club advanced to the next stage of the competition, requiring compliance with UEFA’s registration rules.

According to reports, Uche was the player most affected by Palace’s winter recruitment, as the inclusion of the new arrivals left no room for the Nigerian on the 24-man list. The club faced restrictions due to having only three club-trained players eligible under UEFA regulations, limiting manager Oliver Glasner’s options as he balanced experience, squad depth, and tactical requirements for the knockout stages.

For Uche, 22, the exclusion adds to a campaign marked by sporadic playing time. He has made 12 substitute appearances in the Premier League, totaling 155 minutes, and appeared in four Conference League matches, accumulating 174 minutes. The midfielder, on a season-long loan from Getafe CF, has started just three games across all competitions, showing glimpses of his potential without establishing a consistent role in the team.

One notable highlight came in December when Uche’s outside-of-the-boot goal against KuPS Kuopio earned Palace’s Goal of the Month award, capturing 75.6% of supporters’ votes. Despite the recognition, it has not significantly changed his status within the squad.

Adding to the uncertainty, Uche’s loan includes an obligation-to-buy clause that activates if he starts ten matches this season. With that target unlikely to be reached, questions remain over whether he will remain in England beyond the summer.
