Davido Won’t Enter Osun’ – Ex-Buhari Aide Reveals Why

Former Special Assistant on Digital Communications to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has reacted to Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over his claim that soldiers were planning to prevent him from entering Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

According to Ireporter Online, Davido had raised the alarm in a post on his official X account, claiming he had received information that soldiers intended to stop him from gaining access to the state.

The singer argued that such an action would violate his constitutional right to freedom of movement and insisted that he would not be prevented from entering Osun.

Davido wrote: “I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time.”

Reacting to the claim, Ahmad dismissed Davido’s statement as unnecessary drama, explaining that security agencies had already announced restrictions on movement in and around Osun as part of measures to ensure a peaceful governorship election.

The former presidential aide said the restriction was scheduled to run from midnight until 6pm on Saturday, covering the period of the election.

Ahmad argued that the movement restriction was not specifically targeted at Davido or any individual but was a standard security measure often introduced during elections to prevent disturbances and maintain public order.

He wrote: “You are just dramatic, @davido. It has been widely announced by the security operators that movement in and around Osun will be restricted from 12 midnight today until 6 pm today due to the election and this is a standard security measure during elections anywhere not peculiar to Osun.”

He further maintained that the constitutional right to freedom of movement does not exempt citizens from complying with lawful security measures introduced during major electoral exercises.

The exchange comes as security agencies intensify preparations across Osun State for Saturday’s governorship election, with authorities imposing movement restrictions as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and credible poll.
