The United States Dollar continued to trade at high levels against the Nigerian Naira in the parallel market, reflecting persistent pressure on the local currency in the foreign exchange space.

According to Ireporter Online, information obtained from currency traders in Lagos indicates that the Dollar was sold at ₦1,420 and bought at ₦1,400 at the parallel market, commonly referred to as the black market, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The rates were reportedly provided by operators within the Bureau De Change (BDC) segment of the market.

The parallel market, often called the Aboki FX market, remains a widely used alternative channel for foreign exchange transactions despite its unofficial status. However, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has repeatedly maintained that it does not recognize the black market for forex dealings and has advised individuals and businesses seeking foreign exchange to approach commercial banks and other authorized financial institutions.

Meanwhile, data from the official market shows that the CBN recorded a highest exchange rate of ₦1,415 per dollar and a lowest rate of ₦1,381 for the same period.

Market observers note that exchange rates in the parallel market can fluctuate frequently depending on demand and supply dynamics. As a result, the actual rates at which individuals buy or sell foreign currency may vary slightly from figures reported at a given time.
