The exchange rate between the United States Dollar and the Nigerian Naira at the parallel market, popularly referred to as the black market or Aboki FX, recorded notable activity on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

According to Ireporter Online, traders at the Lagos parallel market indicated that the dollar was sold at approximately ₦1,450 while the buying rate stood at about ₦1,420. The rates were gathered from sources operating within the Bureau De Change (BDC) segment of the foreign exchange market.

Market observers note that the black market remains a widely referenced avenue for foreign exchange transactions in the country, despite its unofficial status. The Central Bank of Nigeria has consistently maintained that it does not recognise the parallel market and has advised individuals seeking foreign exchange to conduct their transactions through authorized financial institutions and commercial banks.

Meanwhile, data from the official window showed that the apex bank recorded the highest exchange rate for the dollar at about ₦1,390, while the lowest rate was around ₦1,362 during the same period.

However, currency dealers explained that foreign exchange prices in the open market are subject to fluctuations, noting that the actual rates at which individuals buy or sell dollars may differ slightly depending on location, demand, and negotiation with traders.
