Drama in PDP Leadership! Damagum Yields to Governors, Picks Koshoedo as Scribe

The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has appointed Hon. (Arch) Setonji Koshoedo as the Acting National Secretary of the party.

This development follows a directive from the PDP Governors’ Forum during their recent meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State. In response to the Supreme Court ruling on the legal dispute between Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye, the governors recommended that Koshoedo, currently the Deputy National Secretary, assume the role in an acting capacity until the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meets.

The forum reiterated its earlier stance taken in Asaba concerning the position of National Secretary. However, in light of the court judgment, the forum resolved to back Koshoedo’s temporary appointment until a substantive Secretary from the South East is nominated and ratified by the NEC.

An internal memo obtained by our reporter, dated April 23, 2025, with reference number PDP/NS/EST/146 and signed by Alhaji Gurama Bawa, Head of Administration at the PDP Secretariat, instructed staff to direct all official correspondence to Koshoedo moving forward.

The memo reads in part: “I am directed by the Acting National Chairman to inform all staff that Hon. (Arch) Setonji Koshoedo, Deputy National Secretary (DNS), is now the Acting National Secretary of our great party until further notice.

“All party communications should henceforth be addressed to Hon. Koshoedo. You are kindly requested to extend your full cooperation and support in his new role.”
